High Point Inspirations 2021
If you've been following me, you know that I attend the Spring and Fall High Point Market each year. This is where all the good design stuff is shown and this market was no exception!
I’ve finally recovered from the 20,000 steps per day you take going through show buildings and I’m excited to share some of my finds and inspirations in the world of accessories.
I love these embroidered pillows on natural cottons and linens with horsehair, topped off with handcrafted felted wool balls.
So many manufacturers closed in 2020 because of COVID and 2021 openings started out with a bang. The recurring theme throughout market is texture, softly rounded forms, fabulous pillows, unique ceramics, rich colors seen in nature, bold wallpaper, groupings, mixed metals, and metals in unexpected places.
Whenever I talk about wallpaper, I actually get chills. I love bold statement paper. It’s the one design element in a space that will make the biggest impact. The trend now is being as creative, bold, and artistic as possible. There were papers that were reminiscent of an artist's canvas to urban graffiti.
I saw beautiful ceramics in decorative bowls, vases, and lamp bases. The trend is ceramics with lots of texture, unusual shapes, and bold colors.
I just couldn’t help myself from sitting in this space that was all about visual stimuli. It is so fun!
Mixing metals has been one of my design tricks for years. What appears to be new is where and how metal is being used.
Tabletop accessories have also been refreshed. If you have a flat surface, a tray or a grouping of trays with beautiful boxes belong on it. The latest trend is the textured materials used. These boxes and trays are dressed in leather, lapis semi-precise stone, coconut shell, hair-on-hide, solid carved stone and wicker to name a few.
After five 14-hour days, this is what happens in the last showroom.
Lastly, here is a sneak peek of a wonderful whole house project I am working on. This is a mood board of the upstairs family room. More to come!
