Time for Change

Whenever I stop to check in and say hello, it feels like too much time has passed. I thought that COVID would slow things down but quite the opposite has happened. I’m back on track with the new studio build out of my office and have been using any free time I have left for lots of self-care and "me" projects. Even a designer can feel the effects of backorders and delays that are inevitable in this climate. I used the delayed time to make better adjustments to the design while I wait for the start up again.

One of the things I have committed to do is strengthening my body and calming my mind. I was having some lower back issues that were preventing me from being my best. Instead of taking all the drugs the doctor prescribed, I joined Pilates two months ago and I have completed 59 classes to date! I am so proud of myself for not only being so diligent but really enjoying the journey and following a more self-loving path.

Then I looked around my home and realized there was an opportunity to care for myself at a new level there as well. Much to my husband’s chagrin, I started working on my owner’s suite and guest bedroom. I added hardwood floors, painted the walls, renovated the closets, upgraded the entry doors to solid wood with custom hardware (that took six weeks to get, it was worth the wait!), changed the lighting, and started selecting all our new furniture.

I even removed anything in my bedroom that no longer serves me. I donated all of my bedroom furniture to a needy family and even though that may seem extreme, I knew that if I held on to anything because I was waiting for that ‘perfect’ moment to make a change, it would take me much longer to find the joy and satisfaction I desired from my space. The result is beautiful, modern, and reflective of who we are right now and my husband loves it so much, he wants me to do a refresh on our lower level too.

If you are sitting in any space in your home and it feels like it belongs to an old version of you, it’s time to make a change. Can you relate?

Next up, I’m designing a beautiful 9,500 square foot home in Southern Maryland that I am pretty excited about. We are completing some finishing touches while we design the outdoor living area and the pool house.

I just came back from High Point Market and enjoyed five days of pure inspiration and collaboration with manufacturers. This trip allows me to show all of the new furnishings and upcoming trends to my clients.

If you have been thinking of a new look or feel in your home, contact me and I can share what I discovered during my time there!

Lastly, what is up with the cicadas? I have hundreds on my stairs and entrance to my home! Nasty big buggers but I’ve found some good in them. I actually sleep better to the melodic sound of their hum during the night.
